Quiet & Reflective Moments in Nature

I am a New England landscape painter drawn to the quiet and reflective moments found in nature - the changing light along the coast, a fog-covered marsh, the stillness of a winter field, or the fading light at the end of the day.
Much of my inspiration comes from time spent exploring the protected lands, trails and coastlines of New England. A perfect day for me includes hiking, taking photographs and, when possible, setting up an easel to paint outdoors. Although I work primarily in the studio, painting plein air keeps me closely connected to the landscape. I believe nature remains the best teacher.
My paintings are often described as contemporary tonalism. I am less interested in recording every detail of a place than in capturing its atmosphere and the feeling of being there. I look for subdued light, changing weather and those brief, quiet moments that offer a sense of reflection and respite from the noise of everyday life.
My interest in oil painting began later in life and grew through drawing and painting classes, workshops with accomplished artists, and years of continued study and practice. After taking early retirement, I now have the opportunity to devote myself to painting full time.
I live and work in Central Massachusetts and continue to explore New England in search of the landscapes - and the quiet moments that inspire my work.
